Aleksey Medvedev (weightlifter)
Alexey Medvedev (1927-2003) was a Soviet weightlifter. On March 15, 1959, he set the Super Heavyweight division world's record of 151 kg (332.9 lbs.) for the snatch in Moscow. From 1949 to 1960, he was ranked the world's No. 1 or No. 2 weightlifter in his division. He was the first European to achieve a 500 kg (1102 lbs.) total in the press, snatch, and clean and jerk. After retiring from competition, he became the head coach of the Soviet Union's national weightlifting team.
